Shozu

1 11 2006

About Shozu:-

ShoZu lets you upload photos and videos from your phone to online sharing services like flickr. Title, tags and description can be set for uploads. Comments made on photo or video can be seen and replied. The program can also send pictures and videos by email and can post them on a blog. Shozu is totally free to download.

Review from CoolFreebiesBlog:-

Although transferring images may seem like a slow thing on a mobile internet connection, the program worked fine for me on GPRS, it may take a little while when uploading, viewing online images is fine because it shows thumbnails instead of downloading the complete pictures.

Has got an easy to use interface, performance is also pretty good and serves its purpose well. So if you love to take photos and videos using your cell phone and share it with the world this piece of software is a must.

ShoZu is now also providing photo, video and music content for mobile users as a Zucast. There are some Zucasts available which you can view for free.

After reinstalling windows i wanted an office package on my computer, but as now I was tired of all the problems caused by MS Office plus on my machine plus it’s not opensource :) so I decided to use something other than that. I found a very good open source alternative, in which i am currently writing this text. The 75MB Package that I downloaded proved to be worthwhile. Not only is OpenOffice fully compatible with MS Office documents, its user interface is also very similar to MS Office, which makes the transition very easy. One of the best features I liked is the ability to save the document as PDF. But sadly this package did not include Bluefish, the web designing tool like Frontpage in MS Office. The suite has six software, Base which is a database system like Access, I wasn’t able to test this because it requires Java, which is not installed on my newly installed OS. Calc is a spreadsheet like Excel. Draw is somewhat like Publisher, Impress is the powerpoint like thing for OpenOffice. Theres is Math, something MS Office lacks, this can be used to insert mathematical notations in your work. Writer is equal to Word, I found only one problem with this the default install does show synonyms when a word is right-clicked and so Ctrl+F7 has to be pressed. The spellchecker of OpenOffice is not as good as the one for MS Office, but still it does the work.Overall I would prefer this over MS Office, unless I face some compatibility issues, with databases for example. The Latest version of openoffice is 2.0.4

I have been using this for 3 months now. I’ve used it on Windows and Linux both. When I installed it first time on my PC(Windows XP) the interface and Gui wasn’t good then I downloaded themes for it and customized it and it was looking awesome. The best thing about it is that it supports a lot of networks: ie msn aim icq etc. I added 3 yahoo ids and 2 msn emails and were online from all of them. The sounds are pretty good. Then after few days I installed linux on my pc, then I downloaded gaim for linux and I was amazed that I don’t have to compile it, but just run the setup, and it will be installed automattically ;) I cuztomized it on linux as well, and have never seen such beautifull messneger on linux :) .The only problem in it is that the default theme is kinda poor. Well, you can also set away massage. When someone will im you, the auto massage thingy will automattically reply. You can also download its plugins :) .Moreover you can setup Buddy Pounces which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle.So far my rating for Gaim is A :)

As I update my sites daily, I want a powerfull yet a light ftp client and ofcourse open source. :) Bassically I was recently checking free ftp clients. I’ve tested alot of them and found out that Filezilla is best opensource ftp client. It is very fast. I connected my server via filezilla on ftp protocol and I got connected in 2 seconds unlike other ftp programmes which takes minutes to connect. Morover it does support sftp protocol aswell so you can connect as a root to your server (unix) via ssh. It has integrated site manager in which you can save unlimited number of ftp connections so you dont have to put login info of ftp server again and again just select your desired connection and press connect. You can resume download and uploads but ofcourse the remote server should support it. The drag and drop system is pretty cool and fast. You can enter custom commands in ftp such as cd mv etc. It comes with 2 themes aswell so you can select the one you like. When you open it, filezilla automatically check for the update which is good feature though if you dont like it you can turn it off from settings. Also it supports a lot of lanugages. Just go to setting then language and select your desired language dont forget to restart filezilla client otherwise new language will not be applied. Enjoy!

Opera Mini

OP Mini

About Opera Mini:-

Opera Miniā„¢ is a fast and tiny Web browser, that allows you to access the full Internet on your phone. Take all your favorite Web sites on the go with Opera Mini!

The new version further improves the browsing experience by enabling download of images, MP3s, etc directly to your phone.

Review from CoolFreebies!
A very good software is out for the J2ME mobile phones, Opera Mini. Although I in no way like the desktop Opera browser which I used a few years back, I found this to be the best web browser freely available for Java phones. Opera Mini outperforms others because it uses a gateway which processes the pages before serving them, it scales images to a suitable size for mobiles, compresses the text and removes ads. The result is fast web browsing over a slow GPRS connection.

The browser takes reasonable time to load, not instantly, but better than what most J2ME programs take. It has a user friendly interface. I particularly like the bookmarks feature where the favicon is also saved along with the URL, and links to several of the popular sites comes preset in the bookmarks, you can simply select the link instead of typing in the URL even when you use the browser for the first time.

However there also are some drawbacks, not everyone would like the reddish theme the browser has, and there is no option to change it. Sadly gmail cannot be checked using this. The browser uses a gateway which means if there is heavy load on the gateway, browsing may become very slow. And if at any point Opera want to shutdown the service it can do it very easily. For example they may want to make this a paid service. Otherwise the browser makes use of all technology available to make a breakthrough in providing a browser for Java phones.
